On Tuesday 28th April, the Pentyrch Hill Race was back for its 40th Anniversary Year since it was set up. It was a ‘First’ in that it was the first time ever that a Vicar (Edward Owen) of Pentyrch and Vicar’s Warden (Ruth Davies) had run it.
The Race was the brainchild of Ruth’s Dad David Pendlebury and St. Catwg’s organist John Gough. During the past forty years, only four times the race was not run and they were due to Covid and Foot and Mouth (when farm lands were closed).
Three years ago, three young men from the village asked if they could help, and have now taken over the race’s organisation. They have insisted that a very acceptable percentage of the profits should come to the church and the rest to a village organisation.
A hearty thanks to David and John for their excellent work over the years, and to the young men who are now running the race. A BIG congratulations to Rev’d Edward and Ruth also, for taking on this challenge…we are all very proud of you both!
