- Safeguarding
The Church in Wales and our Garth Ministry Area are committed to safeguarding and is working hard to ensure we create and maintain safe environments within our churches and halls.
Our Safeguarding Officer, members of the Clergy and the Ministry Area Council (MAC) Team have been hard at work across the Ministry Area (MA), encouraging people to have a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check. Clergy and our volunteers across the MA have already undergone a DBS check and this work is ongoing, as more people step up to help us with our varied activity programme. Safeguarding training is valid for three years after which volunteers will be in a position of needing to revisit modules – this ensures that people are up-2-date with the latest safeguarding information and training.
Safeguarding training (Module A) was offered to people in early July, hosted by St Catwg’s Church, Pentyrch.
2. Approvals of Building Changes
Our churches some of which are listed, require much upkeep to ensure they are warm and welcoming for our congregations. Over the course of a business year, many requests for work on our churches and halls come before the MAC for approval. Each application is thoroughly discussed, and where necessary challenged, to ensure that we get best value for money for the work carried out. To date we have approved thirteen building and maintenance applications from across the MA and are mindful of our responsibilities as Trustees, to ensure we receive the most cost-effective solution to the problem.
3. Developing New Ways to ‘Spread the Word’
We as a MAC Team are conscious that we need to increase numbers in our congregations. Over the past two years, you will have seen the development of Strategy Teams to help take forward the drive to better understand what people in The Garth Ministry Area need, and to create the right environments to encourage people to join us in our journey as Christians. Each of the Strategy Teams (led by members of our Clergy Team) will continue to strive to be at the heart of our communities, confidently sharing the love of God through words and actions. Please also help us to do so, in the best way you can.
