Christian Aid is a Christian organisation that insists the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. Christian Aid and its partners are working to bring an end to poverty around the world – tackling its root causes as well as its effects.
Christian Aid is a charity originally founded by British and Irish churches, to help refugees following the Second World War. For over 70 years, the charity has supported poor communities worldwide. Whenever there are major disasters around the world appeals are made by the DEC, Christian Aid is one of the 14 members of this organisation.
Christian Aid Week usually takes place in the third week of May each year. We have volunteers from all over the Ministry Area, who put an envelope in hundreds of houses throughout our communities. After a couple of days, they knock on doors, asking people to return the envelopes with a donation.
How Have We Done?
Occasionally, volunteers are met with rebuffal on the doorstep, but they faithfully and resolutely carry on and often find people are very willing to be generous and are grateful for the effort the volunteers are making.
Christian Aid is a wonderful charity which helps people regardless of race, gender, creed, sexuality or ethnicity and we are proud to continue to support its work.
More information on the work of Christian Aid charity can be found on the Christian Aid Website and there is even the opportunity to donate directly from their website .
