On 5th October, we spent a very happy couple of hours at St. Mary’s and St. James Church, Taffs Well, chasing mice around harvest loaves. Under the careful supervision and great tutoring of Jayne we all made harvest loaves. In fact, someone who will remain nameless made two before I had even started on my mouse! In my defence it was my first time, others had practiced last year.
It was a wonderful morning of fellowship and laughter, with a great sense of satisfaction. Having a loaf to take home and bake was very rewarding
Mine was used the next day at our all-age informal harvest worship at Creigiau hall, where we listened to the poem The Song of the Reapers by James Kirkup and then ate bread together, the key verse for me being:
For when we eat
This bread that is new-made
We take into our blood
His grace, our meat.
By faith, the earth is fed
And by his love we have our bread.
