About

St. Catwg’s Church offers a warm welcome to all and fosters a joyful and inclusive Christian community. Each Sunday during the morning Eucharist Service, our Sunday Club for children meet. They enjoy activities and learn about God and Jesus through their lessons and the lovely art they create. There is also an active Choir and opportunity for fellowship after services, which is enjoyed by many.

History

The history of Christianity within Pentyrch, dates back to the years of Catwg in the early 6th century. Catwg was then Abbot of the monastery at Llancarfan, and he or one of his followers set up a cell in Pentyrch. St. Catwg’s Church was built in 1857.

It is one of the best churches designed by Prichard and Seddon and was built on an early medieval foundation dedicated to the Saint. The site was reputedly chosen for its proximity to a holy spring to the south of the churchyard, and an offshoot of St Catwg’s monastery at Nant Carban (Llancarfan). It is now the only church in the village of just over 2,000 people. It is a Grade II Listed building.
