About Rev’d Mary Evans
Mary grew up in New Brunswick on the east coast of Canada, and came to the UK after studying music at university, for what was meant to be a gap year, but she’s still here! She has lived in a variety of places in the UK and first moved to Wales in 2007, settling in Swansea with her family. A life-long Christian and church musician, she began training for ordination in 2009, and was ordained deacon in 2012 and priest in 2013 in Brecon, serving her curacy in the Parish of Three Cliffs on the Gower. She then moved to North Wales to take up a position in the diocese of St Asaph, and began a doctorate in practical theology in 2019.
She has had a break from ministry, most recently working as a verger in Chester Cathedral. Through assisting with live-streaming of services in the wake of Covid, she has developed a strong interest in online worship, and now made it the subject of her doctorate, which she hopes to finish by 2026. She is delighted to be returning to South Wales with her children (one in university, two at home) to take up this position in the Garth MA.
Mary enjoys choral singing, and has often sung in visiting choirs for cathedral services. She also plays French horn, and enjoys reading and ice skating.
