About Rev’d Ian Yemm

Ian was a Vicar in the Garth Ministry Area from July 2022 he moved on to a role in Llandaff Cathedral in February 2024. The following was his biography at the time he left the Ministry Area.

Ian’s early years were spent in the beautiful counties of Herefordshire and Shropshire. A teenage call to priesthood took him to London to study his two passions, Music and Theology. He then trained as a singer and voice teacher at The Royal Academy of Music and The Royal College of Music, and sang professionally, latterly in the chorus of the Welsh National Opera.

That deep sense of vocation led him to join a Roman Catholic religious order, where his love for liturgy and music developed alongside a rhythm of life, lived in community. Ian later returned to Anglicanism, eventually becoming the Coordinating Chaplain at the University of the West of England in Bristol, representing the Diocese of Bristol on the General Synod of the Church of England and supporting the work of the Diocesan Board of Education. He was also licensed as a Reader in the Diocese of Gloucester.

After a short period of research at the University of Bristol, he trained for ordination at the St Padarn’s Institute in Cardiff. He has expertise in the area of Christian Spirituality and continues to work regularly as a Spiritual Director, particular in the area of discernment.

Ian is married to Bernhard, a doctor, working in the NHS for the last twenty years. They enjoy travelling, theatre, art, architecture, books and food. With some walking, cycling and cold-water swimming thrown in too.
